Cynder's Contemplation :WIP: by sonicbrawler182 Cynder's Contemplation :WIP: by sonicbrawler182
I was on holidays in Spain and while I was bored in the apartment, I started making this. I was going to draw her on paper first but I just couldn't help myself! She really is a beauty! This picture took at least 8 hours and I have ideas on how I could make it better (proper background, deeper meaning etc) but I will only do so if the picture gets enough appreciation. So please leave lots of feedback! As for why she's tearing up, the main reason I done that was because I think she looks really cute when she is crying (sounds a little wrong but it's true!) But as I said, points like this will be expanded on provided I get enough feedback! (Update): Made some small improvements. Added wing membranes and some more spikes on the back of her head. Also added a spike on her back feet.

Update 2: I got a tablet and added some detail and water. I'm trying to give it a kind of water colour style. Do you think it's going in the right direction?

Thanks!
The tablet I have is a Manhattan tablet.
I'm having trouble drawing new line art with it. Got any pointers? Should I adjust the settings or something?

I got a Photoshop trial and a Corel Painter trial with it, but I haven't installed them yet. For now, I use GIMP 2.6

Well, I think you've really got something going. The colors really work and vibrate. Watercolors are one of my main media and can be so evocative. Lovely movement in the water. Always interesting to see what life has for it. Wishing best of inspirations.

Nice... It really seems that you did put quite some efford into it! I quite like the expression, but I'm just not sure why you added the water >3< It looks nice though! But maybe... You should try working a bit less with straigth lines, I know it'll be alot harder, but stuff might turn out alot nicer better than you'd expect! Anyway, no doubt this is a great piece of work, keep it up! ^^

The reason I added water is because it's a work in progress picture. When I finish it, it will have a proper background and lighting effects and everything!:D

Naww, I love it! She is so cute in this picture!
I like the texture that you did in place of scales-- I find scales really hard to do!
So far I think it's turning out really good!

I'm really bad at giving feeback though, I'm sorry! But great job! :D :3

It still needs a lot of work though! I know in my head what I'm going for, but I've got a ways to go! Her skin kind of looks like fur right now!:D

Well you're doing great, you're definitely on your way there! That's always a problem for me, when i have the image of what I want a picture to look like, but I can't get it to look like! I had to start over a lot on my Dark Spyro picture! XD
But great work! Maybe so she looks less furry, you could smooth out the lines and smudge them a little or something. You're using Gimp for this picture, right? :3

Hiyah! :w00t:

You sure drew Cynder cute! :heart: You say this one took a whole 8 hours? =P Talk about dedication! :clap:
Some feedback, eh? Well, here goes! :)

Perhaps you'd like to experiment on her wingblades some more and draw them just a little bit longer? I mean, they look great now, but some extra-length would make them look even more nice! :thumbsup:
The only other area I see that could use some work, would be those markings just below her eyes. I'd say, try to make them a little smaller and color them like the rest of her body markings.

Other than those, I can't see much to fix, and everyone basically draws Cynder differently with different body proportions. Well actually, there'd be one more small suggestion^^ Try out and erase the part of her tail that goes "inside" her tailblade. That may sounds little confusing but I hope you know what I mean? ^^;

I really like her watery eyes and her expression, by the way! :dummy: It really brings out her character! :la:

Thanks for the honest feedback! I will try doing the things you suggested! It was difficult to make because I didn't have any official images to use as references at the time. As for the body proportions, I was going for the same curvy figure from DotD. I'm playing DotD right now, and just noticed what was wrong with the tailblade. The lines were too thick, making it look like her tail is busting out, where as in the actual game, you can only vaguely see the part of the tail that's inside the blade. When I come up with a suitable background, I will add appropiate lighting/shading effects on her body. I may also make her look a little wet or something and maybe add a few scale details. I will draw her on paper to get an even better feel for each little detail. Again, I deeply appreciate your feedback!

Nyuu problem at all, my friend! :heart: You draw that without any official images as references? Cool! :la:
Yup, she has pretty nice figure in DotD! :dummy: You can actually see the part of the tail that's inside the blade? I never noticed that myself! :D

I'm pretty bad on doing scales myself, as I have't really done them much ^^;
Yup, we all get better on each try! You should've seen my first tries^^ (or not) :XD:

You're most welcome, if you have any more questions and stuff you'd like to know, then ask away by all means! :thumbsup:
